what exactly does 2mb broadband actually mean ?

i can have 2mb of what? this is never explained.

That is the speed of the connection. 2 megabits per second.

2MB is the maximum download speed of the service. The higher the number, generally the faster the service. Note that this is a MAXIMUM figure. I say this because with broadband DSL services, you share the service provider's pipe with other users (this is known as 'contention') - during busy times, say in the evening, you will normally acheive far lower than the maximum stated download speed. http://www.thinkbroadband.com/ is a useful site for information and comparison of providers.

there is alot of confusion about connection speeds of late,some internet service providers are promising users up to 16mb connection speed but you could be promised 32mb speed but it all depends on the normal external factors
a) distance from exchange
b) network traffic
as for your 2mb connection speed,this equates to around a download speed of 125kbps,which is not to bad,this will download a 10mb file in about 1minute and 20 seconds
note:do be aware that this speed can fluctuate,so it may go down to 50kbps but if you use it at 4am in the morning it could go as high as 250kbps
