I'm taking a class on Instructional Design and while we have a U.S. History textbook to aid us in our project we cannot use the units directly from the book. The teacher wants us to "think outside of the box." I cannot come up with any other way to organize it other than chronological. Any ideas for how to divide and organize U.S History units would be appreciated.

How about geographically? You do one unit each on the north, south, east and west. Show how each area developed from being settled through the present.
