It is a book in the bible. It is a bible name. Perhaps people cannot pronounce it correctly and deemed it as different but it is not.
I do not understand why people would call this name dumb to the point she removed her question. Let everyone not forget that this forum is used by people of many different creeds, ethnicities and religious backgrounds. What you deem to be "standard American" names are not the only names in the world! By her post it sounded like she put alot of thought into those names and to have it belittled is mind boggling. What would the world be like if we were all the same? Recongnizing everyones differences starts with "US" teaching our kids. I thought this forum was for parents. If we worry what others think and conform to other people standards then how can we change for the better? How can you teach your kids to rise above that sort of stupidity if you act stupid yourself? I will teach my kids to respect all no matter how different.

Simply...I agree with you on also respecting other peoples opinions but I cannot understand why some must belittle others to get their point across. As adults we can agree that we disagree on our likes and dislikes but I think it can be done in a less derogatory manner.

I didn't see your other post, but I agree that Malachi is a great name!

And I totally agree with you on respecting other's differences. Unfortunately, that also means you must find a way to respect that other people think their way is the only way and everyone else is stupid. Not an easy task- but it's something I am working on too (I am a Unitarian Universalist and that is part of what we believe- the inherent worth and dignity of EVERY PERSON)

I hope some people reading your post will at least think about it.

I named my son Malacki and I love it. It is a very strong name for a boy. You really don't hear it and that is why I named my son Malacki. When people say it remind them of " Children of the Corn" i say and your point is. Don't let other people put you done for what you like. I will never change my mind about that name.

There is nothing wrong with the name. I have always loved that name. I would name my child that is i were to have another boy.
I do really love the name Malachi

I had put on a question on here once asking if people liked my son's name? (Julian) and people said it was a gay name or it was a girly name. I would rather of named my son something unique/different than plain ole John.

I love malachi, It was my top pick if i ever had a boy, but i was planning on spelling it malakai. either way kudos to you, people shouldn't put it up to a bunch of random internet ppl to choose their children's names, if malachi is what ya like stick with it, don't change things if some ppl don't see the beauty in the name.

there is no one thing that everyone can like, there's bound to be different insights

DJ I agree w/ you. Sometimes i'm so nervous to put up questions b/c people will make comments about me needing to take parenting classes, lightening up, etc... I'm sure most of the people on this forum are on here b/c they have questions also and don't know every single thing about raising children, so i don't understand why they have to be judgy and rude.

We considered it for my baby. We settled on Gavin instead but it was in my top 5 names. The thing that deterred me was the fact that I was afraid that people would pronounce it wrong and I didn't want him to have to go through that.

I can pronounce it but I know that most of the population should probably slaughter it!

I don't have a problem with it. A friend named his little boy Malachi, and he's adorable. But, I will admit, sometimes it reminds me of that mean red headed boy in The Children of the Corn.....he was scary.
