It will make them feel that the Democrats and the handful of Republicans who support this cowardly resolution are pissing on them, pissing on the graves of their comrades who've died, pissing on the sacrifices of those who've been injured, and pissing on the deaths of all the Iraqis we've been trying to help.
And it would be an accurate assessment.
It's going to harm morale, it's going to force the Iraqi's and our other allies to hedge their bets against America going full chickenshit in 2008, with the Democrat abandonment of our commitments.
It also says to the terrorist insurgent to keep plugging away for 1½ more years and then victory will be theirs. This has the result of increased troop casualties.
That's the effect of this stupid resolution.

Played right into a stated Al Qaeda/insurgent doctrine of stretching an engagement to exhaust and defeat support. By systematically using the media and the lefts platform of defeat of Bush we have resolutions which are purely political in nature and only for election posturing. Case in point now the left talks of restricting troops in funding and tactics thus by dwindling support and threats will have an effect on the war fighter if the support mechanism is being slowly eroded.

The point of the resolution was to force members of Congress to go on the record about whether or not they support the war. There have been too many accusations of flip-flopping. It wasn't intended to affect the troops. Supporting the troops and supporting the war are two separate issues. The troops don't make policy decisions.

I heard an interview with an Army Staff Sergeant who indicated that the political discussion does not affect the troops morale at all. What affects their morale the most is watching their friends die, having the VA budget decreaed, and being asked to fight without proper equipment. This resolution will have no effect on the troops in the field.

It really will have no effect.
But, In an ideal setting, It would pull the troops from Iraq and put them in Afghanistan so we can finish the first war that we started.
I think if you listen to any of the Generals in Afghanistan, they will tell you to expect a huge Taliban offensive this spring....It would be nice if we had such a large force that we could completely crush them and follow them into the mountains and crush their hideouts, then bath in the blood of their children.

A nonbinding resolution against America's policies in the Mid East can do nothing but encourage the terrorists and discourage American troops.
And Congress doesn't seem to give a damn.
Sad.

None.
The troops will still patrol and guard and fight and die. In fact, they stand a better chance of getting the armor and weapons they need then under the former (this is the army they signed up for so suck it up) atttitude.

It's going to hack them off in the short run, and make them feel unsupported by their own government. But since nothing is really going to change, they will go on and continue doing their jobs. It will only be a minor blip, soon forgotten.
