So this morning I saw ants around the sink and couldn't figure out why, I opened the cabinet under the sink and there were quite a few more in there. The only things in there was trash bags, dish soap, and an ant killing spray from when they came from somewhere behind my fridge (cat treat got left on the floor and attracted them the first time but haven't given him any since).

So I noticed that there was some black buildup around the white pipe, didn't have time to investigate it since I had to head to work.

Also for 2 weeks or so I have been having black residue on my plastic cups after they have gone through the dishwasher, when you rub it off it is almost like a think soot layer, but nothing fell or burned on the heater coil.

I was curious if anyone has experienced this or has an inkling on what it could be and why it would attract ants.

Probably your sealant is coming loose. This stuff have something to do with the plumbing of the unit. Check behind the dishwasher to see. Or check the drainage of the unit.
