That would depend on where you live. Many cities are implementing city wide wireless internet. In my city it's scheduled to be fully implemented by Sept.

However reports I've heard from people in cities that have done this would indicate the service is sensitive to weather conditions -- in bad weather it's not too reliable.

if you have a laptop, you can get wireless card. they come either for internal or external. i have an external one that i use and it feeds off of internet signal from people in my neighborhood. you can also use them in like starbucks or mcdonalds or anyplace the offers wireless internet service. some are password protected but a lot are not. the card would come with a program to install and that would show which are protected and which have the best signal.. i use a wireless g booster by linksys which is a very common system and can utelize signal from many programs.

If your neighbor has a wireless network set up, and you have a wireless receiver, you may be able to get internet. Or you could take your laptop with a wireless receiver to somewhere like Starbucks (or any place with an access point) and get internet.

You can buy a WIFI card and service with a cellphone company. All you need is a computer.

You can also use your cell phone as a modem to access the internet. You will need to have DATA service with your cellphone provider, and bare in mind it's extremely slow.
