We were victorious over the Cong and the North Koreans but our gutless, cowardly, democratic poilticians sold out our country for their agenda as they are trying to do today. Cowardice is the bond-slave of villians; the handmaid of oppressors; the bodygaurd of tyrants. In fact tyrants cannot exist without cowardice....

Marjorie, ever heard of Pres. Lyndon Johnson. What history you read must have been in the public schools. The cowards tied our hands and resrticted our push of the defeated Koreans to the 38th. paralell. The veitnamese were soundly defeated and the North should have been punished for its atrocities. I guess you could care less for the millillions slaughtered after we left. You are a true historian for the left, huh?

It sounds like your blind obedience to the GOP has blinded your view of history.

1. We entered Vietnam to prevent the spread of Communism to South Vietnam
2. We fought for 10,000 days and pulled out in April of 1975.
3. Within weeks communist forces overran South Vietnam and Saigon was changed to Ho Chi Minh City.
4. The border between North and South Vietnam was erased and it simply became Communist Vietnam.

Please explain to those of us who have clearly read more than you, how we WON the Vietnam War.

I think you need to read some history books that do not have the serious right-wing slant you have obviously picked up. The US was NOT victorious over the Vietcong, we left Saigon in a panic and only just made it, the enemy snapping at our heels. And South Vietnam ceased to be. We lost.
We might have won the day in Korea if the Chinese had not poured more than a million troops into the conflict. We did not exactly lose in Korea, but a stalemate was all we could win. Korea is still split in two, the north is still communist and the DMZ still is patrolled by armed troops. That is the plain and simple truth of the matter.

I don't know how old you are or who you have been listening to, but you are wrong on many counts. Our soldiers where being killed left and right, the North Koreans and Viet Cong were taking control and moving south consistently, and it was totally wrong to be there in the first place, much like Iraq today.
The Republicans were in office when we pulled out of Vietnam. Richard Nixon was President; ie. a Republican!
Study the true history. I was alive and had many friends and relatives who were actually in Vietnam. Talk to veterans of that war. They will tell you the truth.
P.S. My present husband was there.

Please include the name of the supposed Democrat who "still wishes to hide the truth" that the U.S. did not lose the war in Vietnam, or else you are just making a false accusation. Sure, the military forces of the U.S. and ARVN were victorious over the NLF and PAVN - until the U.S. departed, then the ARVN lost. What was won in 1975 by North Vietnam WAS a military and a political victory - the unification of Vietnam.

I'm confused.

The goal of the US in Vietnam was to keep the communists out of south Vietnam.

the communists took over south Vietnam.

thus we lose.

Historical revisionism indeed!

Are you seriously telling me that N. Korea played a major role in the Vietnam War?

I see! You've confused the Korean War and the Vietnam War. Grab your textbook again, and LEARN!
