I have used a variant of the "How to teach your baby to read" program by Glenn Doman. It really works for children of all ages. show the written words, paste them around the classroom on the different objects. Show the use of the language instead of the grammar. First, teach the children how to survive in the second language to draw their attention, how to ask for food, for transport, for clothing, for the basic needs. Use music to teach proper pronunciation, providing the printed lyrics if they are old enough to read.
Best of luck

Same way as it's done for ESL. Alphabet banners on the wall. Pictures and map(s) from the country(ies) where the language is spoken, coloured word cards, numbers in the language, art from there, crafts, lanterns (it's Chinese), attendance charts with the names of the students in Mandarin and days of the week, menus....use your imagination and have fun
