Hell no! I would lie to them for fun and tell them "This wont hurt a bit!" Then I would rip their tongue out as a form of punishment and no doubt promote truth as a side benefit. It's a win win situation really. Am I evil?

The purporse of a liar is to distort the truth. This is done in three primary ways. One is to combine false statments with logical reasoning, and another is to combine true statements with illogical reasoning. The liar also takes advantage of any perceived weakness in the receiver.

Promoting the truth is the best thing to do to a liar. It is good when untruths are brought into the light for all to see. Until a liar is revealed, he is free to deceive whomever he chooses to prey upon.

We must also be careful, not to lie to ourselves. Until we place light upon the lies in our own life, we are not totally free. Lies enslave and eventual lead to death. A regretful lie I heard in my family is "I can stop smoking cigarettes any time I want." My poor aunt died from lung cancer, rather than receive help on quitting. Maybe if more family members promoted truth to her, she would still be alive today, to see her grandson.

I must say however, that still there is some merit in your proposed "lie to a liar as a form of punishment." One place where I think it could apply is in internet scams. Ever receive an e-mail claiming you have won some prize, and you should give additional information or send money? I think an excellent way to punish these liars would be to send them back a thousand e-mail responding to their phoney claims. Since they send out a million e-mails everyday, let them sift through a thousand phoney responses everyday : )

To promote the real truth? If u need the actual truth for a situation that is very important I think it would be worth a try. Attorneys do it all the time. However: if its a trivial deal I would just let it go. Don't sweat the small stuff, ya know. And the habitual liars have mental malfunctions anyway, and they will never change .

If you mean an habitual liar, I would not have anything to do with them as I could never trust them. If an occassional liar, be honest. We all lie from time to time for a variety of reasons and so long as it is not malicious or hurtful should we be so self righteous?

hmm... very interesting. lie to a liar to prove a point or as payback but to promote truth.. don't think that's the way to go.

Is it possible to lie to a liar since he would not believe you anyway. And if he did not believe your lie then would it still be a lie?

No, because when you lie you lower yourself to the level of the liar. In essence, you have become what you loathed.

if any elder lies so it is useless to punish him as it comes by family's education we cant help it out but if we wud punish it they could think to be more stick on it.

but on other hand as humen we aer not supposed to embarace someone or degrade ,,
the only way u cud inspire lier by truth is that we shud inspire him with our trust and innocens, and they cud think that how innocencely we became kuku so our expresion cut lead them not to lie some one else..
