Most colleges accept people with either a high school diploma or a GED, but you would have to check with the college of your choice to make sure they would. If the college won't accept you because of your GED, you could go to community college for two years and then transfer (assuming your grades there are good).

Absolutely! Kudos to you for wanting an education! My cousin went this route and now makes over 100k/year. He was determined and didn't let anything stop him.

Get your GED and then start out at a community college. There are many good reasons to do this: First, community colleges don't have as strict entrance requirements as traditional 4-year schools. Second, community colleges are much cheaper so you'll save money in the long run! This gives you time to discover what you'd like to major in without the added pressure.

I strongly suggest making an appointment with an academic advisor to see what your next steps can/should be. This person can give you a roadmap of sorts to get you on the right track.

Good luck!

The first answer hits the mark. Most of the time a GED is viewed as equal to a diploma. And starting at a two year college is the best move, since it will be a smaller college and usually will offer more help for you to succeed. Once you get the core courses done, it is easy to transfer and continue on, if your grades are high enough for the program you wish to enter.

My daughter actually got her GED a year before she would have graduated from HS and is now in her second year of college.
