You hear so much about slavery of the black man? Really? Do tell? Native Americans were robbed of their land by the same folks that enslaved the black man. Like slavery it has just become a part of history. Something to get over. But I am glad to hear that you have been so throughly educated about slavery.

Maybe because we're living on the land stolen from Native Americans. Yes, a tiny percentage of land has been "graciously" returned to a few of the tribes that originally owned it, but its really nothing in comparison to what the Natives had originally. Also, Native Americans were not regularly enslaved. They were free. They signed "treaties" and made deals with the Europeans for land. Those treaties were not usually honored by Europeans or were written so that the Natives were giving up more than they had actually verbally agreed upon. The Natives were swindled out of their land (at least to begin with, later they fought for and were eventually killed for their land)...maybe that isn't seen as being as bad as being ripped from your homeland, forced into slavery and bondage for more than 400 years, raped of your ancestral history, taught to hate your own kind, and eventually made the skapegoat of most crimes commited because it was easier to believe that their kind didn't do those kinds of things. I'm not saying that either race was treated better or worse by the Europeans, just that maybe they feel worse about slavery than they do about stealing land. Maybe they understand that slavery made bastards of an entire race of people in this country. And because the few Native Americans that survived were able to continue their traditions and eventually some were able to thrive again, they can put the thoughts of all that was done to the Natives in the back of their minds. Reparitions were never made to blacks ( though money could never undo the almost irreparable damage that slavery caused the black family), so some whites still feel guilty about slavery and have no way to rationalize the guilt away.

There have been many more atrocities in our human history than those two examples. Wrong though it may be, slavery existed from the beginning of time. The Romans tortured and killed in the name of ENTERTAINMENT! Numerous civilizations have actually been totally eradicated just because some neighboring civilization wanted to claim their assets. And we can't forget what Hitler did to the Jews! And that's only the tip of the iceberg....there have been many more examples of human cruelty. I'm hoping we can put a total stop to it in today's world. But to do that, we're ALL going to have to put it ALL in the past where it belongs. We CAN'T loose the lessons learned however, because doing that would only doom us to repeat the same mistakes. We HAVE to stop point accusing fingers at each other, and work together to solve our social problems.
