We did not set up a payment plan I told him when I could send payments and how much so I guess we did. Anyway he is saying that what I am paying is not enough and that he can come get the car without notice. Can he legally do this since the car itself is paid for and I did not sign anything on the maintence?

Thank you everyone for the advice thats what I thought. And no I'm not having him do anymore work to the car and the title is in my name and I have a receipt stating the balance of the car is 0. He is one though that will just take the car and not even tell you.

Don't send him another dime. Taking the car is felony theft. If he wants his money tell him to sue you for it in small claims court. If there is no signed work order, he still gets nothing.
2 things - you have the title and he has no work order signed by you?

If you paid him in full and have a receipt stating this them he cannot touch the car..you can have him arrested if he did..it's called larceny.
As far as the maintenance is concerned he can take you to court but with just a verbal agreement and if your making regular payments there's not much he or the courts can do. Just make sure that you pay him by check so you have a receipt or if you pay him cash have him write and sign a receipt for you.

No, he cannot come take the car. If he does, it will be theft and you should call the police immediately. He can try to sue you in a small claims court but if you are making the agreed on payments in a timely manner, he doesn't have a case at all. Sounds like he suddenly needed the money for something and is counting on you falling for his threats.

Do you have the title?
If he holds the title then he can legally come and get the car (in most states, anyway).
If you have the title (and it is registered in your name), and if he comes to get it, report the car stolen to the police, and tell them who you think took it.
THEN, if he claims you owe him money, the police might decide its a civil matter, but it will force him into small claims court, and then a judge can decide.

if you've got reciepts and records, the police will be on your side.
also, if you've got your own land, buy a gun, and put up a large, easy to read sign that says 'tresspassers will be shot at as to kill them'
if he walks up to your front door, tell him 'you've got 5 minutes to leave, or i will kill you' if he doesn't leave, kill him. problem gone.
