No, a male OB/GYN isn't awkward. I had 2 different ones who delievered my 2 kids. I liked them and they were good doctors. I didn't try a female doctor until I was in my forties. Wow, what a difference. The female doctor's bedside manner was wonderful. She is young, very caring and seems to understand. So unless you KNOW you can have a fantastic bedside manner and put people at ease, then please for the sake of women everywhere, don't go into this field. Because OB/GYN is more about the relationship you have with your patients rather than liking to bring babies into the world. If you like kids, try being a pediatrician.

I almost actually prefer a male gyn. Exposing that part of my body to a female is actually more awkward to me. True they may be able to relate better since they have all the same parts and been through the same things, but at the same time I would rather a doctor strictly compare me with medical science and case studies, not their own personal experiances. I could talk to my mom or one of my friends if I wanted some one to relate to. I think the majority of women who prefer female gyn's are the type who are still shy/somewhat shy around men in general. Thankfully I am not one of them.

I have a male OB/GYN that looks fairly young. The only female I have had is the midwife and I stopped seeing her as soon as I did the paperwork she had to fill out. I am 22 yrs old and my dr is maybe in his mid to late 30s possibly early 40s. He has delivered 3 of my children and performed 4 surgeries on me while I was knocked out. I find it easier to talk to him than to most people about medical issues that arrive. He performed a hysterectomy on me and that saved my life-I was bleeding in my uterus and needed 2 units of blood due to it. He takes my issues seriously and his wife had a lot of the same issues I did while pregnant so it was easy to talk to him about them since he had been down that road before.

Being a woman, I wish to use a female gyn, although I
know some woman who will go to a male gyn. Maybe you
can research male urology instead.

No strange stories!!! But yes, if i am honest, its not just that thy are looking at your "bits", but do they really understand your problems?Obs is different, that is about children, but gyn, well, I would rather a female, but only because I would think she could empathise, I mean. do you really know what a period feels like?????!!!

I have no preference in the sex of my doctor no matter what kind of doc it is. I would prefer a good male doctor over a bad female doc any day. A doc went to school to do a job so if he is good then I don't care what sex he/she is.

I had a really young, and really attractive guy gynecologist and it didnt bother me one bit. when i first saw him while in the waiting room i thought he was really attractive. but when u get into the room and hes just doing his job, its nothing awkard. does what he has to do, asks u questions, and u get out of there. he actually made me feel rreally comfortable because he was very personable.
