Snowblower Trouble?
Have an 8 HP snapper snowblower. Put new gas in it each time its used. It will fire up and theres a spark but won't stay running. Any ideas why?

Its a briggs and stratton engine, takes reg. unleaded gas, and the choke isnt closed. On the gas line there is an on off switch and its on.

It sounds like there is an obstruction in the gas line or the choke setting is too rich for the running conditions. The fact that it started and ran eliminates most of the common problems.

If you have an electric starter (or a really strong arm) keep cranking it. That may clear the problem. You could also try spraying that ether-based starting spray to try to get past the initial start conditions.

There is always bringing it in to a snow blower repair place for them to fix if nothing else helps.

Ok the real answer chances are that you just have fuel that is gummed up in the bottom of your carburetor you can take the carb off and clean in really good with some carb cleaner make sure to get the fuel bowl and the float really good. 9 times out of 10 that's the problem. What I do a lot of times is take off the the air filter assembly to to the intake side of the carb and take the fuel bowl off then spray carb cleaner in it clean the bowl out really good and put it back together. Note either drain all the gas out of the tank or pinch off the line cause as soon as you take the fuel bowl off gas will start running every were.

Snowblowers vibrate alot. There is an adjustment screw under a bowl under the carb. This screw can vibrate loose, causing your condition. Start the machine and tighten the screw a LITTLE BIT at a time. Don't turn too much or it will stall. Once the engine runs smoothly, let it warm up and back the screw off just a tiny bit. You won't the engine to run smoothly and strong.

Check the air filter. First, if you are in a clean (not too dusty) place, take the air filter off, and see if it will run. If that works, clean the filter and put it back on.

Ever clean or replaced fuel and /or air filters? Oh, and small tip... buy some fuel stabilizer so you don't have to keep replacing the fuel.
