go to: http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/downloads/powertoys/xppowertoys.mspx

look on the right column and select download "Tweak UI"

After you install it, go to the "Desktop" section and uncheck the Recycle bin. You can still access Recycle bin from Windows Explorer.

Yes, you can search for "TweakUI", which is an app created by Microsoft that has various features, among them the ability to hide some of the default icons like Recycle Bin from the desktop view. You'd still see it in Windows Explorer I think, just not on the Desktop.

Yes you can delete the icon and get access to it through explore
just right click on start then explore then go down all the way to recycle bin.
but why do you want that headache?

I don't think you can delete it, it's a part of Windows operating system. I've never heard of deleting the Recycle Bin!

I am not sure about that. You might try "right clicking" on it and create a "shortcut" icon. Place the shortcut in some other folder, then go back and try deleting the original. Just a guess...
