Fixing the government can be done through a process known as 'voting'. I believe this is what the conservatives are subtly hinting at.

Don't you mean ...why doesn't Anybody, try to fix it? The people have the right, but not the "common sense" to do a little maintenance. That's right "maintenance". I'm willing to bet that an extremely large percentage of average Americans , drives their car and seldom checks the oil , plugs, air in the tires or even takes it in to get a tune up until the damage has been done from neglect. It's up to US, to listen to the knocks and pings, sputters and pops...and do a little Maintenance!
"I think all men and women are created equal and are endowed with certain undeniable rights, including life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. To secure these rights, governments are created and derive their powers from the consent of the governed. Whenever any form of government tries to destroy or take away these undeniable rights, it is the right of the people to alter or abolish that government and replace it with a new one."
Abe Lincoln

Government, by nature, is incompetent, inefficient and corrupt. And Congress, by far, is the worst of the 3 branches. It does not actually have responsibility, so they for the most part simply look to pad their own nests and their careers.
When people talk about Universal Health Care, why doesn't anybody ask about Congress' exemption from Medicare? When people talk about retirement, why doesn't anybody ask about Congress' exemption from Social Security? Why doesn't anybody ask about government employees' exemption from Social Security?
And, to repeat a previous answer, why would we be interested in "fixing" the incompetence of bureaucracies we believe are unconstitutional in the first place?

The Conservatives arent the ones complaining but you are right that anyone who has a complaint unless they've done anything to try and make things better they can't complain. Each and every one of us can do something even if it's to make a phone call or write a letter or sign a petition.

Great question,
Because they are humans. and humans are all out to cover their own butts.
If you were suddenly given a job of authority as a lawmaker and were told that if you do this, and this, and this, you will have a great salary, the best medical insurance for you and your family, and a retirement package that is second to none.
I know what every one of you would say, conservative, dem, liberel, Repub,
dosen't matter
It would be:
Yes sir, what would you like me to do next

Once they get in office, all they do is try and get along. A few of them are making significant changes, for example, Senator Kyl from Arizona. But most seem to get a case of amnesia. It is one of the main reasons they lost power in the last election.

The true conservative does not want a government to do things. They would want the private sector to do them. That is what they mean.
