Why do censors insist we should not be exposed to swearing and sex and stuff like that.
Swearing:

It's not big, it's not clever, but everyone does it. Little Jimmy probably hears more swearing from his parents than when he picks up an Eminem CD.

Violence:

Take a tour of South London and then tell me it shouldn't be televised.

Sex:

Everyone does it sooner or later (most cases sooner). Why should we all live in ignorance until someone says we're 'old enough to know'. By then we've probably all got about 50 kids we don't know about.

Hey, lighten up, guys. Some good opinions coming through, here, but what I'm getting at is that I'm not trying to promote it all, but that censorship, in a way, does kinda encourage this behaviour. I was 'protected' as a child. The result was that I swore like a sailor when I wasn't under supervision. I've never agreed with violence. And as for sex, I waited til I was 'old enough' and never looked back. Technically, I still wasn't mature enough, but I knew so little about it in my sheltered childhood bubble, that I just wanted to get out there and see what all the fuss was about. Now I know, I just wonder why I wasn't allowed to know as a child, why I 'shouldn't' have been told, in no uncertain terms, what sex is all about. I probably wouldn't have been so curious when I hit 16.

Rare2find mentioned about being able to tune out, change the channel. Try telling that to the people who persistently complain about what they see on the TV. Don't like it? TURN OVER, SHERLOCK!!!

Rare2find - I salute your intelligence and ability to follow the logical path. Nice one, mate.

What difference is it making? Censoring or not all the issues you touched upon are alive and well and well covered all over tv! It's rather a matter of being able to 'tune out' this behavior more than anything else. If I don't like it, I turn off. But when I hear a small 5 year old 'cursing' (and not really knowing what he or she is saying), that's taking it a bit far. And you are not entirely correct. Most of these kids hear this cursing on tv.
The 'ignorance' comes from people who see nothing wrong with it and who do not believe that such behavior can be very offensive to others, whether an adult OR a child.

It really annoys me when swearing and sex are censored after the watershed. In my opinion, if I am an adult, then let me decide what I want to hear and see. If a warning is given out before a program that it will contain swearing, sex or violence, then that gives sufficient time to let the viewer decide if they want to view it or not.

Naturally, it should be censored before a watershed time when younger children would be watching television (even though the majority of them already hear/see most of what adults are exposed to)

Well, when you're a child you pretty much mimmick what you see and hear. I, personally, can't stand it when a child cusses or uses obscene language. There used to be a time of respect and innocense for children. I'd like to think we would all want that.Setting a good example raises children with the right morals and values, hence a pos. for our culture. The opposite is also true. Look at where the world is at right now.

That maybe how your parents raised you and it seems alot of other parents use bad language and speak out of turn around their kids. Personally I hate to hear excessive swearing and from what I have seen and heard from kids at schools lately it is a disgrace. Sorry i do not agree with you 100 per cent. Swearing sounds really nasty coming from anyone let alone young kids.

Real mature. Actually there's hardly ANY censorship. Where do you live, China? Casual sex and violence is all over the airwaves, and it's done enough damage already, and it's getting REALLY old. I can't even turn on the TV without seeing it.

I hope you're just a troll.

Because last time I looked the majority of sensible people didn't want to listen to swearing, watch chavs tw@ts killing each other, or watch people humping before the water-shed.

Everybody also has to sh1t - but we don't need to see that on TV. Just because everyone does it, or is exposed to it doesn't mean we want it when we are safe and comfy at home.

I don't know who the censors are trying to protect but if you fancy a f*ck followed by a punch up give me a shout!

Because all of this will desensitize children therefore making them believe that everything they see on tv is normal. They will pick up on everything quicker. Why encourage that?
