Help! Everytime I try to sew my thread gets tangled under the feed dog. My brothers sewing machine is less then a year old, YES i'm threading my machine and bobbin correctly. Is there a reason for this? Should I take it in or is there some way I can fix it!

First do everything you can to fix it.

Use a can of pressurized air (like we use on electronics) and blow all dust and threads out of the bottom and the up and down shaft area. That should take the dust and junk out better than a brush. Blow air threw every nook and cranny.

Then oil all the moving parts with machine oil. Then stitch on a piece of waste cotton to absorb any excess oil.

Check your tension settings. Adjust it until it is perfect on the scrap of fabric.

Different types of threads can effect the tension and the way your machine stitches.

Double check the threading. I personally double and triple check everything just to be sure.

If after you do these things, I have no Idea. It is easier to do these things than explain them. I personally have never had a Brothers. I had a White for many years and now a Sears Kenmore. I am dying to upgrade but learned the machine was $5000.00, oh well so much for that one.

Good Luck.

What Samm said was correct, however the machine might be out of time, needle could be bent slightly(change the needle),the fabric you are sewing may be thin and is getting caught in the feed dog. Also check the threading and see if the thread might be wrapped around a thread guide causing it to jerk and not feed properly. When you start to sew, make sure the fabric is all the way under the presser foot, lower the foot, turn the handwheel by hand slowly for a few stitches before you use the foot pedal to see if it's feeding properly. As you turn the wheel tug slightly on the fabric from the back of the presser foot and turn the wheel at the same time.Make sure the feed dog(teeth) is up.Also the bobbin might not be "seated" in the chamber.Take it out, make sure it's threaded right, return it to the chamber until it clicks in place and pull thread up with top thread. Brother machines can be tricky sometimes. If this doesn't help, call a repair shop.
Good luck,hun

You should put in a new needle for everyproject, make sure you are using the same weight thread in the top and bobbin ,pull the 2 threads out about 6 inches before starting to sew.If all that fails ,I would take it to be serviced. When I started to sew ,my first machine was a brother ,had a bunch of problems with it ,it was very frustrating!I then bought a Sears Kenmore(at that time they were made by Janome) after that and never had any problems at all.

Try removing the feed plate, and really clean around the bobbin case and under the feed dogs. You'd be AMAZED at how much lint can get stuck under there. But, if after you've cleaned everything you can get at, and it's still not running right, you probably should take it in. I take mine in about every 6 months to a year, depending on how much I'm sewing. When I'm working on alot of projects, I'll even take it in after I finish a huge project.

Also, make sure you're using a new needle. I switch my needle every time I start a new project as well. Good luck!

It may mean that you are not securing the bobbin thread when you begin to sew. Bring a couple of inches of bobbin thread to the top before you begin sewing.

Yes it is worth it considering the age of the machine. it may be that there is a slight burr on a feed dog that is catching the thread. make sure you can reproduce the problem when you take it in so they know what to work on. Besides, it can't hurt to get the machine oiled and tuned up!

Samm has the right idea.Do you have a manuel? My old Sears one has been very useful over the years. It might be your bottom tension-most bobbin holders have one(some where).I needed to adjust at one time-after changing it all for a quilt. But first make sure it's all lint free.If less than a year-take the thing back and have them fix it,if you still have a warranty.Where I am they charge $50.00an hour just to look.

Try different fabrics and threads. I had the same problem, and it turned out to be because I was sewing on a very low-quality fabric.
