Archimedes continued to do more experiments and came up with a buoyancy principle, that a ship will float when the weight of the water it displaces equals the weight of the ship and anything will float if it is shaped to displace its own weight of water before it reaches the point where it will submerge.

Its something to do with it displacing more water around it than it takes up in weight... something like that. Someone with more knowledge can give more accurate answer.

archimedes principle of dispacement. it displaces more water that the shell weighs... therefore it floats...

and weve known this for around 4000 years.
