Yes, RSV will cause extreme dehydration in some infants, but coupled with pneumonia, thats not good. What you have is an extremely immune compromised infant who cannot keep in fluids or breathe with out difficulties. Either one of these could become life threatening, but the combination of the two is horrific.

Good Luck and God Bless. I hope your little guy is doing better.

Hun hang in there your baby is in the best place he can be right now. My son had RSV at 13 months. It was horrible he was in the hospital for 2 weeks. He is 8 now and in perfect health. He had asthma for his first year of life and as soon as he had RSV he never had symptoms of asthma again. So I believe RSV cured the asthma. Hang in there it will get better. They will send you home with a SVN machine you will have to give him a few treatments a day for about a month. Good Luck

YES! This is going around here in Ohio. I have a friend that watched her cousin loose her four month old because of this. My neice was in the same boat, but luckily they listened to my mom when she told them to just go the ER. My neice was only coughing no fever when she had RSV and broncholitis which is the swelling of the airways (small tubes). She could have died had she not gone in the ER that night...

Very scary!

When I brought my son home the nurse told me infants under 9 months don't get colds. It's not normal for them to cough. If you notice any of these symptoms come directly to the ER.

It is very likely with the two combine he could have died from it.

But don't be too hard on yourself it happens. My youngest daughter has asthma and one of the first signs of a flare is coughing(she has had this since she was 2 weeks old) When she was 18 months she was in a flare but I took her to the ER to diagnose an ear infection. Well her O2 stats were very low only to find out she had to be life flighted to our nearest children's hospital and was diagnosed with RSV. I would have had no clue had I not had taken her in for the ear infection and she could have totally stopped breathing on me at anytime.

yes, he could have. my son was the same age when had RSV. i took him the reg. doc who sent him home and said it was a cold. the next day i took him to the ER, who diagnosed him with RSV and sent him home. I took him to another ER the following day, who admitted him. We were there for 4 days and he had stopped breathing as well. There baby in the room with us also had RSV and died the day before we got to go home. I don't want to worry you, but it is very serious. I will pray for your little one.

My son had RSV & pnemonia... huge doses of steroids (one was like a horse syringe!). We spend 4 days in picu... and he recovered. Be strong - your lil fella needs you to be strong right now. Take care of yourself also - you are post pardum, so make sure to eat and rest when you can. He's in the right place right now.

Oh yeah! RSV is very very bad in a baby, and phnemonia is bad even in adults! I am glad you took him in when you did, or it could have been bad!

I am not trying to scare you but messing around with that stuff isnt smart!

An infant can die from RSV.

Yes, absolutlely.
Why don't you address your concerns with the nurses who are careing for your infant? They not only are mandated by law to educate parents they are in the best position to answer your concerns.
I am sorry this has happened to your precisous little one. However, your babe is now in safe hands and will more than likely recover nicely.

RSV is extremely dangerous (particularly for preemies), and combined with pneumonia only that much worse. I hope your baby is better quickly!
