Don't confuse the number of brain cells with the information storage capacity of the brain. They aren't the same thing. However the capacity is huge and we only use a small part of it.

People don't use their brains because it takes effort to think.

Its the same reason why people don't use their muscles and sit and watch TV instead of keeping fit.
