I heard that after WWII France considered becoming part of England. Is this true?

Yes it is indeed true that the matter was discussed in 1956 between the French Prime Minister, Guy Mollet and the British PM, Sir Anthony Eden.

As I heart watching TV, it was Guy Mollet who was socialist who proposed to the first minister of England that France would enter in the commonwealth. But as they said the English did not answer immediately and there was nothing more
