A garden eel cool! They are salt water.

The main portion of the Hass's Garden Eel is usually buried in the sand, and if approached, retreats into the substrate. Several of these eels may be kept together in a 100 gallon or larger aquarium with at least 6 inches of sand, a gentle current, and without aggressive tank mates. Decor should be kept at a minimum. A tight-fitting lid on the tank is required to prevent escape. One can be housed in a 30 gallon tank just fine.

The Hass's Garden Eel diet consists of meaty foods and live foods such as grass shrimp or small feeder fish. Can be a highly aggressive fish. They will eat small fish in the tank.

Family: Congridae
Range: Indo-Pacific
Size: Up to 14 inches
Diet: Carnivore
Tank Set-up: Marine: Sand; minimum amount of coral, rock, plants
Reef Compatible: No
Tank Conditions: 72-78ºF; sg 1.020-1.025; pH 8.1-8.4
Minimum Tank Capacity: 100 gallon
Light: High
Temperament: Semi-aggressive
Swimming Level: Bottom
Care Level: Experts only
Reproduction: Egg Layer

They usually run about $50 each.

Most fish stores will not guarantee this fish. They are difficult to ship and do not fair well. Once established in your tank, they are easy to care for. It is just getting them there that is the problem.

Only an expert in salt water should attempt to keep this fish.

that must be a very staggering handle on your eel! only rinse them under water, i a internet, to get the dirt off and plop them in the tank. If he does no longer teach activity in them, do away with them after minute. attempt to place them close on your ell, so he will see them devoid of postpone and bypass right into a feeding frenzy! Edit:positioned somewhat moist dirt in the container so the worms won't dry out and that they'll do positive till midnight. verify you wash the dirt off in the past feeding it to him.

The Garden Eels that we dive with in Belize are definitely salt water animals.-----PeeTee-----Although in my fish ID book they are called Heteroconger Hassi. Oh well taxonomy is weird and constantly changing.

this little cutie is a saltwater fish. they're very delicate guys and should only be attempted by an expert marine fishkeeper. they grow to about 14" long! would you believe that only ever really seeing it's head? i've seen a lot of these in public aquaria, but never private tanks.
