My guess it is derived from the newly and voted as the number 1 word for 2006 which is "plutoed", which mean to lessen the value or to decrease the stature... This word was made in line with the incident when the 9th planet of our Solar System "Pluto" was de-ranked from being a planet to become just a moon. So maybe plutons means a group of something with lessened value... ^^,
