The definition of gay is:
1 a : happily excited : MERRY b : keenly alive and exuberant : having or inducing high spirits
2 a : BRIGHT, LIVELY b : brilliant in color
3 : given to social pleasures; also : LICENTIOUS

All of these are stereotypes of homosexuals. My question is: Why does the homosexual community define themselves as gay? And does this hurt the homosexual community?

Who decided "gay" was good? Why not f*g*t? The definition of f*g*t is: 1. A bundle of twigs, sticks, or branches bound together.
2. A bundle of pieces of iron or steel to be welded or hammered into bars.

The term "*****" comes from the times when homosexuals were burned like a bundle of twigs.

How is this any worse than "gay”?

Why not fairy?

I would really like some constructive feedback from both homosexuals and heterosexuals (not straights because that implies that homosexuals are crooked).

Do the labels we give ourselves affect how people perceive us?

And is Homosexual better?

Words are very powerful. I think that "gay" may make people think that they are suppose to act a certain way if the are homosexual.

Should heterosexuals be called straight...it implies that homosexuals are crooked...I don't think many people have actually thought about the implaction of these words...I think they are trying to be rebellious...and choose words that are controversal.

Dear ***, (*** is actually a donkey so really that it is not meant to be demeaning)

To call some one a ****** makes you a cock (cock is actually another word for rooster so again not demeaning). The homosexual community accepts the word gay because so many heterosexuals have a hard time saying the word homosexual. Besides gay just sounds more fun doesn't it? To be called a fairy by a straight bigot again makes you a prick (prick is actually when you pierce something like your finger).

So to conclude with my answer it really depends on who is using the word and the context it is being used in. Except for ****** which should never be used.

No matter what we choose to call ourselves, the bigots will hate us. It's how we act that may influence those with more open minds to perhaps see us as the regular folks we are. Sure, there are stereotypes in ALL groups, and the bigots will trot those out to "prove" their points; but for the most part, it's all in the actions not the words. Just MHO.

Lessee. Straight for hets is from 'bent', which is slightly out-dated terminology, more common in the UK than the U.S. I think it's a brilliant term for those who are unimaginative enough to explore the less conventional sides of their sexuality. Works for far more than sexuality too.

So don't hear straight as the opposite of crooked.

Everybody hurts. And if someone does not like being called something, then you shouldn't question it. Just respect it. And I also don't think heterosexuals need to be called "straight." (I always say, " um, sure, yeah right - STRAIGHT TO BED").
