They hire consultants with tax payers money, they have focus groups given loaded questions, they are lobbied by pressure groups, saying if you do this we can guarantee,to keep you on the gravy train. Then they pay a member of their family to answer, all the awkward questions their constituents send them.A very few MPs have worked outside Politics and these you will find are there for Public service reason's not to line their own pockets at the TAX PAYERS EXPENSE

Currently sitting in the House of Commons are former teachers, actors, doctors, soldiers and lawyers.

A quick visit to Wikipedia gained the following information about MPs' former careers:

Gordon Brown was a lecturer and journalist, William Hague was a management consultant, Glenda Jackson was an actress, Ken Livingston worked for cancer research, trained to be a teacher and worked as a food critic, Sir Menzies Campbell was an athlete, John Prescott was a waiter and David Davis was an insurance clerk, joined the TA and worked for Tate and Lyle for 17 years.

Lets try to be impartial, some of them have actually worked for a living in one way or another but having arrived in the Land of Milk and Honey (Parliament) most of them are praying they will never have to 'work' again. After all where else could you claim expenses like they can and employ your family as secretaries/researchers. In any case most of them are so out of touch with real life they haven't got a clue, what they all do have however is a great capacity for verbal diarrhoea.

The answer is they can't.....Until we do away with career politicians, this is going to be a problem. The voting public needs to look past the handsome/pretty face, the glibness, the political party affiliation and really ask themselves.....What is this person's qualifications to make decisions thats going to affect me and future mankind? Until we learn to do this or impose term limits we are stuck with status quo.

Your guess is as good as mine, these people sit in their offices taking money off the tax payer ie me and you for doing nothing but spout none sense about things they know nothing about. And yet they have the cheek to say they need more money and also that they deserve respect, in my eyes people have to earn respect and no politician apart possibly Tony Benn even comes anywhere doing that in my mind.
