I have got the instructions on how to change an IP address, but i now need to know what to change it to, how do you know ? Please

You can go to Start, Control Panel, Network Connections, Local Area Connection, Properties, Internet Protocol (TCP/IP), Properties. I can't help you further.

If you are in a private network (have your own router connected to a modem from the isp) then you need to change it to what the static rip of that router is. Usually it would be a private range like 192.168.1.100 or 10.0.0.100 or something like that. Your subnet mask would be 255.255.255.0 by default. you might want to leave it a that. DNS you can leave that setup to opbtain one automatically from the ISP or you can set them up manually from some dns servers you might now.

My sugestion:
leave everything to be obtained by dhcp.
