I made a total of $6,726 in the year of 2006.
I claimed myself as a dependent, with no kids, and at the time I was living on my own. How much of the federal and state taxes can i expect back?

For your federal return, you can make up to $8,450 without any tax liability if you were single with no dependents, so you would get all of your federal withholdings back. Your state withholdings would vary depending on what state you are from, but the odds are good that you would get all of that back as well.

Additionally, if you had a landline or cell phone with long distance service, you can get another $30 credit for the Telephone Excise Tax Refund. Finally, if you were 25 years old at the end of 2006 and had no other income, you would also get Earned Income Tax Credit of $410 according to the IRS EITC Assistant (but that amount would change a bit if you had other income like interest, etc). Check out the link below for more details on that. Good luck! :-)

Whatever you had withheld, plus the $30 phone tax credit, plus an earned income credit of around $412. You only would be eligible for the earned income credit if you are between 25 and 64 years of age.

You should get all withheld taxes back as your income is below $8,450 per year.

BTW, you don't claim yourself as a dependent. You get one personal exemption, but you're not a dependent.
