Most Lebanese people, if not all, are trilingual. They speak Arabic, French and English. Learning at least 2 of those languages is mandatory in every school in Lebanon. Most schools teach both English and French so yes, everyone in Lebanon can speak English and French.

I saw an episode of "Anthony Bourdain: No Reservations" and a lot of people in Lebanon seemed to speak English.

Anthony was suprised how cosmopolitan the city was. Good night life. Eating. If only the city wasn't being bombed at the time.

It depends on the level of English you are referring. English has gained more popularity lately although French is still more widespread.

I believe that French is on its way to become extinct. There is a primary reason for this. The majority of universities are now teaching in English rather than French. This forces students who are French educated to learn English when they reach university level.

To the best of my knowledge, the only universities that still teach in French is the "Université Libanaise, "l'Université Saint-Joseph", and "Université Saint-Esprit de Kaslik". The rest teach in English.

French is still however to this day the 2nd mostly used language by the state after Arabic (for example road signs, currency etc...).

Whatsername, doesn't know why they consider lebanon a 3rd world country when the people speak at least 2 languages, well, in Africa, each nation over there speak at least 5 languages, and they are 3rd world countires. Does language make ur nation a non 3rd world country ??????? ;-) i don't think so >>>>
