You'll only get killed or raped if you act like an idiot and deserve it!
SA is the best place on earth, show respect and they will respect you.
I go there all the time and its awsome. The People are fantastic.
If you walk around with wads of cash and loads of bling bling you probably deserve to get robbed!

I think you've got a misconception of South Africa. It's not what you'd think of as a "typical African country." It's not like countries like Liberia or Mogadishu or countries like that. It's more developed and modernized, well at least in the areas surrounding the bigger cities...farther out though, there is a lot more poverty and such. Obviously it is going to be just as dangerous as other places with rapes and killings, because well, those happen everywhere, but it's not like theres going to be bombs exploding everyone or people with guns everywhere.
I would be a bit nervous going there, as I wouldn't know what to expect from the country or what to look out for, but I don't think I would be afraid. I would love the opp to go to the 2010 WC and if I ever got it, I would probably take it.

To be honest I think you are very narrow minded. Rape and murders happen all over the world. I know of more people in the UK that has been a victim of crime than I have done in SA. I suggest you grow up just a little and face reality on the whole world.

That's pure bullshit. it happens but not so often, and during the world cup there would lot more securities so, don't worry. by the way, there are lots of friendly people there and most of the people are gonna take care of you.
I'll gladly go there if i can afford, already started saving..
One main reason that world cup will gonna be arranged there is just for get rid of these superstitions and nasty tales and prove the country as a friendly nation.

I live in SA and the crime is not that bad. Sure, SA has a problem, but don't most places? [don't get me wrong, I'm not denying it]
If you abide normal rules [don't go out at night to certain places, etc]
than you'll be fine.
I can't wait for the World Cup!
