Your processor is getting too hot. Your fan should be running at all times though to keep your processor cool. If it keeps getting too hot then you risk damage to your processor and other components as well. Always keep your computer cool and away from heated places and in a ventilated area.

Heat, and the need to get rid of it. The fan is used to move air past devices that get hot, thereby taking the heat away from the device and out of the machine.

This is caused by a temperature sensor being triggered by the heat, which in turn instructs the fan controller to turn on. Once the temperature drops to below a suitable level, the sensor signals the fan controller to deactivate. In some systems the speed of the fan is related to the overage of temperature, thus reducing power needed for cooling and the noise made.

Is it a laptop or desktop? There are one or more fans in the box, depending on model, including the fan on the power supply. They need to be running all the time, that is what they are designed to do, not cycle.

They wear out, you need to find out which fan is causing your problem and replace it asp, or take it to a reliable repair technician.

Its not hard to replace fans, do a search and get instructions on the Web.

You could lose your power supply, or burn up your CPU, or even start a fire.

many possible reasons which include, but are not limited to the following: [like the disclaimer :P]

Fan may just be getting faulty and needs to be replaced. Not expensive for the part, but can be if you cannot replace it yourself and have to get a "tech" to do it.

Your system is old and you have a lower wattage power supply, have added new hardware inside and now the power supply cannot supply proper power to all the parts including the fan to keep it going.

You BIOS settings may need to be changed to keep the fan always on--which is usually the safest setting for the other more expensive pieces of hardware inside the case.

you computer fans motor must be going bad, the fan should stay on at all times when you computer is running, does it shut down sometimes for no reason? if so it is over heating. I would get the fan replaced soon as possible, before it does damage to your computer.
