A federal court has cleared the way for TV bounty hunter Duane "Dog" Chapman to be extradited to face charges in Mexico, court officials said.

Norma Jara, a spokeswoman for the second district court in Guadalajara, said the court rejected Chapman's injunction request, ruling there was no reason not to try him with the charge of deprivation of liberty of Mexico.

"We only just heard about the Mexican court's decision to continue with the extradition proceedings, and are still in shock," Chapman and his wife, Beth, said in a statement issued Thursday night in Honolulu.

"Our attorneys have not even been formally informed of the court's decision, as of yet," they said. "We are obviously deeply disappointed and fearful of what will happen, and are currently absorbing the news and discussing our options at this time."

Mexican authorities had already asked for Chapman's extradition from Hawaii.

Chapman's lawyers argued he would not be guaranteed a fair trial in Mexico, Jara said.

The charges against the 53-year-old star of the A&E reality series "Dog the Bounty Hunter" stem from his June 2003 capture of convicted rapist Andrew Luster, the Max Factor heir, in Puerto Vallarta, 210 miles west of Guadalajara.

Chapman was arrested Sept. 14 along with his son and another associate and released on $300,000 bail. He faces up to four years in a Mexican jail if convicted.

Luster's capture shot the Honolulu-based bounty hunter to fame and led to the TV series. His disappearance set off an international manhunt by police, FBI and bounty hunters trying to recoup some of the bond money. Luster is serving a 124-year prison term.

It doesn't matter what he did as long as he took this animal off the streets. Saying he broke the law in Mexico is an oxymoron to me. Laws in Mexico?? Please! It's the most lawless, corrupt place on earth, next to Louisiana of course. Regardless, many people have been pardoned for much worse things than taking this loser Lester off the streets. He should get an award and a medal for stopping him from hurting other innocent girls!! I'm saddened & disgusted if this truly goes through.

Mexican authorities are embarrassed & ashamed it took a bounty hunter from the US to catch this guy when they couldn't so they are going to make an example of Dog!

If the US Government sends him back to Mexico to face these charges , We as American Citizens need to call for the Termination of any and all Judges involved in this. Luster is a bad man and this WORLD is a safer place with him behind bars......ALSO do you know That a Judge denied Dog and his crew the Reward money due from the capture of Luster...The Judge Stated That they were nothing more than a Family of Vigilantes

The only way we can stop this is if we BOYCOTT vacationing in Mexico - hit them in the pocketbooks and this can become political. Why would I vacation somewhere where they like to keep convicted rapists on the street. I have partied at the bar Andrew Luster was picked up at several times. I am so glad he wasn't there when I was.

He broke a law in Mexico that he was well aware existed. He also has shown the Mexican court system no respect by not showing up to court dates. He should be convicted. He is lucky it is Mexico he is facing charges. If he broke the law in India, China or a place like that he could be charged by the courts and killed. All this for TV ratings, hope he is happy.

Dog the bounty hunter is as accountable to the law as you or I. He knew that taking that man out of Mexico the way he did was against the law. I am not saying that the scum bag rapist did not deserve any and all punishment that he is getting because he does. And if he had raped any of my loved ones trust in the fact that once I had him in Mexico they never would have found his body. That being said, If you are going to preach that the law is to be respected and that if you break the law you should face your punishment, how can it not apply to all law enforcement, even bounty hunters.

Shows how weak some US officials are to placate to Mexico's whim, without considering what a scumbag the Max factor heir is. Who was vacationing in their law and order nation. Hypocrisy for the sake of, well national pride (Mexico's).

It is definitely wrong! An injustice to a law abiding man that just wants to keep our streets safe and to right most wrongs.....

What about the border crossings that are illegal? We don't keep them here against their will to place them on trial. We just deport them and possibly they will try again, but that's all that needs to be done.

They should just fine him and send him back to the US with a slap on the hand, even though what he did to Luster was right.

Really like the show and how they look like crazy-scary cartoon characters, but they're great, caring people with a lot of common sense. As far as Beth, her boobs and nails are something else. I'd like to see a "before" pic.

I think that it is utterly disgusting... Mexico should be thanking the man, not trying to send him to prison. This enrages me, he took a man off the streets that in all honesty should be kept in a small dark prison cell with barely any breathing room, and instead faces going to jail himself? Leave it to Mexico to do such a messed up, unjust thing.
