My dictionary tells me that 'dude' is American slang for a 'dandy'.
So what is a dandy?
The book goes on to say 'a man who pays excessive attention to the smartness of his appearance and clothes'
It can also informally mean 'very good of its kind'
So clearly, dress wise, not all dudes are dudes, dude. Though some may be friends of the very good kind!
