I have a problem with snow on my parking spot. It is very hard snow that is ice-like! No way to dig it without hurting my hands. Is there a way to get rid of it? If salt is the answer, then what kind of salt.

I would try to break the ice up as well as I could (either with a pick ax, shovel, hammer, whatever). Then, I would sprinkle salt (the hard rock kind found at the stores usually next to the snow shovels.) As the weather gets warmer, the sun and the salt will help break up the ice even more.

Good luck! We had a foot of snow here plus a nice covering of icy rain on top! I can sympathize.

That's a tough one. I would say your best bet is to just keep applying salt until it melts. Depending on the temp there it may take a while though. If it is like -10 degrees like it is here the salt won't do much good. After you apply the salt and it starts to melt a little you can try to scrape off the top layer of slush and then add more salt. Repeat until the ice is gone. Next year try to stay on top of it and shovel before it gets packed down so hard. Good luck!

use hammar to break the ice up, and put hot water on it!
