The role of a general education teacher for any of these disabilities is to follow the IEP's (individual education plan) which are put together through an ARD (annual, review, and dismissal) commitee and to collaborate with the special education teacher about the best plans for the student with disabilities. The role of the special education teacher is to collaborate with the regular education teacher to ensure that the plans are going as they should and again the special education teacher is also responsible for making sure that the IEP's are being followed. The special education teacher needs to monitor and document a lot more than the regular education teacher.

What a great question. Here is the view of two special education teachers. T & B
There is no correct answer because you teach to the student not the disability. Legally, you are bound by the IEP to teach the goals and objectives developed by the team while providing the accomodations noted. What that means for each student is different. There is a wealth of information out there about strategies to use with each of the disabilities you've listed, but it all comes down to showing growth.

The role of the teacher would always be to work toward helping the student achieve their academic goals (goals in area of reading, writing, or mathematics depending upon what the student's qualified goal areas are). The teacher uses the IEP or Individualized Education Plan as their guide and yard stick for student progress.

Occasionally the teacher may need to adapt materials to suit student needs. But, frequently the most specialized areas of instruction for students will be their time spent with therapists (speech therapist, occupational therapist, physical therapist).
