Placing items in the dryer will not sterilize them. Your dryer does not get hot enough to sterilize. But, it the closest you will come for what you want to do. It will kill and remove any left over fleas. Use high heat.

Some of the following answers are half right. The best solution is to treat the dog, cat, or any other animals harboring the fleas. I have had the problem in the past, and Spot Shot (from the vet) works. I purposely asked the vet what products to treat the house with and she told me " it's not necessary" I didn't believe her, but she has the degree, I don't. Welllll, 2 weeks later every flea in the house was gone. That was 3 months ago, and the house is still flea clean. Do what you want, but I would check with a professional. Putting stuff in the dryer will not do any good. Bombing will not do any good because of the eggs already layed.

A sign on the entrance of one of my local parks has details for dealing with ticks and how to aviod getting bitten, one of the suggestions was to put clothing into the dryer as the heat would kill them. No idea whether it would work for fleas, but would it would imply so.
The main thing you have to do is get rid of the source - you didn't mention whether the source was in your home or not!

you would have to wash in bleach first to kill and then put in the dryer. But that is for mites in the bed sheets etc. Any other fleas in the house you need to use a flea bomb to kill them where they may be hiding.

It sounds possible anyway. I've had to deal with fleas a number of times, and that included washing everything that was washable.

Yes it is true, wash with hottest water possible, the dry them in a dryer for 1 hour, or put put the contaminated cloths in a sealed bag for a week (make sure they are dry).

No..it will not work!
If you have fleas, do a "bug bomb" for the entire house. Otherwise the infestation willnot go away.
