If you make total restitution to the victim before the court date the victim may agree to drop the charges. Talk to the prosecutor to see fi they would be willing to drop the charges if the victim ok's it.

Next time don't steal. You use food for your kids as an excuse, but $300 for food and gas could take care of you and them for quite a while.

Sounds like you are looking for a way to excuse your actions by claiming that you did it for your kids or you did it for the noble reason that you needed gas to go to work. Judges are not fools and will likely be insulted that you think everyone would fall for you baloney to divert attention from your own actions and what YOU did for YOU. You are a thief and you should get punished. If you could make restitution than you could have gotten the money you say you needed without stealing it. I hope you get a dose of jail because you stole from someone else who probalby needed it too, but most communities are kind hearted and will try to help even a thief but the reality is that a thief is a thief and will steal again. Your excuse is bogus.
