It's not a myth....I grew up on a farm all my life, and we could always tell if the store was going to be bad just by how the cattle and the horses acted. We always knew if it was going to rain. They can sense the change of moisture in the air, and the changes in the grass. Animals are a great source of knowing how bad the storm is going to be, if you see them heading for the hills, you should hed somewhere as well.

Not just cows babe but all animals. especially if a storm is on the way. They have a sense that we lost millions of years ago. How does a dog know when its owner is coming home when they are miles away, or why does my dog ask to go out at exactly the same time every night. They cant tell the time. Why do people say bulls hate red, they only see in monochrome. There is so much we dont understand about animals.

Because cows are usually kept outside they can pretty much gauge the weather at any given time. There is a saying in my homeland that if a cow is lying down it's gonna rain, if it's standing up it is raining!! It rains here lots :)

It's actually not a myth at all. Cows tend to get arthritis and just like humans with that condition their joints ache when the whether gets damp so they lay down to relieve the pain

Its not a farmers tale, they can feel the change in air pressure thats why they lay down. Change in air pressure usually means it gonna rain

Its only a myth that they lie down before the rain. in fact a cow will lie down periodically during the day to ruminate it's daily forage thats consumed at haste then regurgitated to be chewed properly before swallowing. this is normally done when lying down.

Humidity changes and pressure changes in the air- most animals can sense it, and people can sometimes sense it- if it is dramatic drop in pressure I can, but my grandpa- with his arthritis and everything he got done in leg, he is more accurate than the weather channel.
