on Powerpoint 2007 how do u get the text to appear line by line, on the same slide, as you click on the mouse?

I think it's under custom animation.

By lines, I am assuming you mean you are in outline view. If you are pre 2007 version, look at the task bar, lefthand side and you will see three view icons: just click ont the first one which will take you to normal view, the slide main part of screen with possibly outline or thumbnail view pane on the left. If you don't want this, but just full screen of slide, click on x top of lefthand pane.
