Definitely go to the dermatologist. Your dermatologist will probably start you would with some kind of cream and see if it works. He or she will just keep moving you up in different kinds of medications until something works or until they have to do chemicals or lasers. They usually don't like to start you out on the most invasive procedure if they don't have to. I don't think it ever really goes away completely, but you can have smoother skin. Go to this website. I just found it and didn't read it all but it looks like it might be a little informative so that you can go to your dermatologist with some knowledge: http://www.facialplasticsurgery.net/acne_scar_removal.htm

Microdermabrasion might work for you, but there are also peels that will fade your acne scars.

What I do is apply Vitamin E oil to scars before I go to bed. It really helps to fade the scars and make them softer and smoother. From now on, you need to make a habit of just applying an acne gel and keeping your hands off of your face.

Sounds like you will need dermabrasion. Go to a good beauty salon and ask their advice on various treatments available.
