Your thyroid is a gland around your throat, not a disease. You can have thyroid problems like hypo or hyperthyroidism...some of the symptoms can include constipation, muscle weakness, depression, high cholesterol, weight gain and constant fatigue. The thyroid horomones control fat, carbohydrate processing, metabolism, and protein production. Thyroid problems can be hereditary or they can be caused by iodine deficiency, chemotherapy, pituitary disorders, medications, and autoimmune disorders. You cannot "catch" thyroid problems from someone.

thyroid is a gland, so it is not contagious, just like heart or kidneys are not contagious. Thyroid conditions are hereditary, but they are also not contagious.
