Someone recently was going through the same concerns as you and this is what I told them. Hopefully, it will help you too. I had 2 premature babies (3lbs 14 oz and 4lbs 9oz) and both gained weight differently. What's important is that they are healthy and receiving all the love and attention you can give them. Don't worry, premature babies grow at their own pace..some fast trying to catch up with others and some slower just trying to take it all in. You're a great parent for even paying attention this closely to your child. Just enjoy her growing and exploring new things. Beware of the negativity that others can bring sometimes when it comes to Preemies. God new when our children where to be born, they were just born a little small, but have BIG hearts. Keep up the good work.

You need to be asking her pediatrician these questions! Anything medically-related about your preemie daughter needs to be referred to an actual doctor or someone who knows your daughter's actual medical history. How early was she born?

My daughter was born 12 1/2 weeks early (at 27 weeks) and was 1 lb. 14 oz. and 13 1/2 inches at birth. She's now 12 months old and weighs 15 lbs. 8 oz. and is 27 1/2 inches....and she has done extremely well and is very healthy! She's come a looong way, as all preemies have. She struggled with weight-gain for a while, but she's progressed and is doing amazing.

It sounds to me like your daughter is doing rather well for her weight, but again, I'm not her doctor so don't go by what I say.

Good Luck to you and your daughter!

My boys were born at 26 weeks and weighed 1 lb 15 oz and 2 lb 1 oz. They are now 7 months old and are 14 and 15 lbs and 26 inches long and my pediatrician says they are perfect. They are both only in the 5th percentile as far as normal babies their age but that is to be expected.

John, I think she is doing just fine. 10 pounds in 8 months is not bad at all. Does she have any other issues like reflux. Many preemie's do have that and it CAN make a difference. My eldest son was a few week's early.. had reflux.. we added rice cereal to his bottles and he did fantastic.. now at almost 17 yrs old he is 5ft 11in and hitting 200 pounds.

All children grow differently. If your pediatrician is not worried about it.. then don't you be either. No need borrowing trouble.

Sounds like she is doing well...she has gained 10 pounds in eight months which is not bad at all.

My youngest daughter was born full term and weighed 7 pounds 5 ounces...when she was 8 months old she only weighed 10 pounds.

shes FINE. i was born at 24 weeks and by the time i was 4 months old I only weighed 5 pounds. ur baby sounds perfectly healthy. when ur a preemie you have to take extra time to "grow up" in the begining. its only a matter of time before your little girl is changing just as the same as other babys her age

You should ask your doctor, but it doesn't sound bad to me. If she was a month premature, then developmentally she would be a 7-month-old.

My son wasn't a preemie, but he was always in the lower percentiles for weight. Some kids are smaller than others. If your doctor is not concerned, I wouldn't be, either.

well, you havent stated how early she was born. but to check developental charts you would read them as if she was full term.

for example...she was born at 32 weeks. she is to be following the chart as if she is only 6 months old, instead of 8. but the best advice is to ask your ped. they know all the answers.

if you dont want to go in for an appointment to ask only this, just call their office and ask to speak to one of the nurses. they always helped me when i was a new mom.

You should be asking a physician those types of questions.

Her pediatrician would best be able to tell you that...not us.
