Doesn't this make you sick.

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk/6368123.stm

A whole host of errors and risks have been found at Bernard Matthews.

I'm fed up with companies thinking they can get away with behaving appaulingly and having no social responsbility to all those around them.

How dare Bernard Matthews risk my chickens with his crap processes.

Isn't it bloody obvious to everyone that storing raw meat outside is likely to cause probelms.

All they do is claim they were within the rules.

They should be ashamed of themselves.

Louise, you're conversation with "older people" missed one very impritant point.

They didn't hang up 160,000 birds in thier kitchen.

The more they cram in, the higher the risk, BM has very clearly proved this.

Becky, come on.

Are you sure ?

Do you not think that a company involved in food production should have some biological control knowledge ?

Its obvious this plant is a mess out of control , regardless of any rules.

Of course my chickens are well kept. Look at my picture. Free range on open pasture.

Its people like me, who care for our animals, that will suffer most.

To BM poultry are just a "product" - he doesn't care. To me, loosing any of them would be devastating. To BM, its just another business risk

Shame on all who defend BM

It's the arrogance of big business. Who would want to make a fortune over cruelty to animals? Also, I gather that DEFRA agreed the import of turkey meat from Hungary after bird flu had been identified.
My husband found two dead ducks near a stream in a built up area very near to where we live. When he reported it, nobody wanted to know. Apart from healthy, well cared for poultry, like yours, being at risk, so are we all if it mutates. This government hasn't got a clue and cares less DEFRA should have been purged after the foot and mouth tragedy, which never should have happened. In 1967 there was an outbreak of foot and mouth which was well contained and certainly did not result in horrible mass burning of animals. Neither they or the likes of Bernard Matthews are fit for purpose.

I agree, to an extent.
You do not know that Bernard Matthews is the cause for everything you mention. Also, the news can be biased and leave out the vital bits!
If they were within the rules, well then its officials thta should tighten these rules.
I am sorry to hear that your chickens are at risk, and hope you don''t keep them in awful, cramped conditions because people who keep chickens in that way deserve to have a loss.
If people complain about BM and keep their chickens like that its their own fault anyway.

Yes it was obvious to everyone, thats why they had to front it out with a stunt like David Miliband, the whole damn country agrees that this goverment is a shameless bunch of twats, go to any poultry farm and you will see dead carcases rotting in the corner of ill-lit sheds, acres of them particularly in hot weather. One processing company I know even water their company football teams playing field with the water used in processing. What if an infected bird was processed there? Would you like to risk a fall in a football match on their turf? I bloody well would'nt. Government have been telling us for the last few years how serious a threat avian flu is to the worlds population and are allowing this £200 000 000 bio terrorist to get away with a sorry? Boycott Bernard Mathews food. Vote labour out they are a disgrace to humanity.

Yes. It's a typical example of how a company thinks its reputation and long-standing advertising campaigns will excuse any bad practices, and fool us all. Unfortunately the public have short memories, usually, and I have no doubt that Bernard Matthews will continue to make his millions. Personally I hate his products though.

all big companies are the same the bigger you get the greedier you get and you lose site of the product you were passionate about in the first place sorry to disillusion you the only people who care are the ones with morals and ethics and there are very few of us with both working in these horrid big organisations that can be effective or make changes the poor underlings have to do what they are told - its the way of the world, every organisation if managed by greed will go this way.
they wont feel shame or guilt only inconvenienced they have to deal with it and profit is affected -

They are a business screwed every way by legislation and supermarkets, Legislation closed down most small abattoir's and the only way to keep food inflation down is mass production,Which will always cause problems. Who has the greater social responsibility,BM for getting food out cheap or yourself and your expensive methods?
