I have decided to tile my bathroom myself. What tools are essential...and where do I start...someone told me to start in the midle of the wall.

Can I tile on top of old tiles...I heard that I can?

Also the bathroom widow is set back into the wall sos how would I make a neat edge around the window?

Be so grateful for any tips I can get!

Maybe check w/ home depot--they have a DIY section where they explain all of this.

i think it will depend what kind of material the tiles are made out of. If they are hard like concrete you will need a tool to cut them which will be electric. If they are soft (er), you can get a cutter you use by hand. (kind of like a paper cutter) If you remove the baseboards, you can tile as close to the wall as you can and then cover the edge with baseboard. I don't know about tiling over old tiles. I have not seen that done.

you need to remove the old tiles and make sure that your backer board or green board is in good shape. you should start at the edge. looks nicer and is less cuts that way....do not start in the middle. the really important thing is to make sure your adhesive and your grout are mixed correctly or you will allow water to seep behind and rot out the backer board and wood. this will cause mold and bad stuff and the tiles will fall off....not pretty.....
if you have never done it before....i would leave a shower and your bathroom...high water areas....to a professional.

you may want to change your decision about tiling it yourself. it's a lot of work, and if you don't do it right, its gonna look like h**l.
oh, i forgot to mention, old tiles should be removed.
