nightmares aren't something that your mind just conjures up, so these "intense" dreams are already in your head-most likely from some type of past experience. But don't worry there are two approaches to making your nightmares go away;

1. Face your fears by watching a lot of scary movies. Your dreams will get worse, but you'll eventually get over them, and not have any at all. I would recommend this way because it is the fastest and you will become stronger as a person and soon you could be afraid of nothing.

2. Talk to a close friend or some type of guidance canceler. You can discuss your dreams, find out which ones you have the most and why. When you know why you can fix the problem at the source. And if all else fails they can give you a prescription for sleeping.

hope this helps
sleep tight :)

Try adding an extra blanket, or using an electric blanket. I get bad dreams when it's cold. Make sure that the room is either really dark, or that you have a night-light--try one or the other and see if it helps. Check for cats that might be jumping on you, which is a rich source of nightmares around here. Check for odd sounds that might be disturbing you at night.

And finally, see if you can do something with your pillow, which might be encouraging you to sleep in a position that makes you dream strangely. I get nightmares if I wind up sleeping on my back.

You could try hypnotherapy, or learn dream analysis and keep a dream diary, but it isn't quick and easy. View: http://www.dreammoods.com/dreamdictionary/ (.com/dreamdictionary/) and see the medical & psychology sections of your library and read modern books based on sound scientific principles, like the work of Fritz Perls.

Often nightmares are caused by stress, traumatic experiences, emotional difficulties, drugs or medication, or illness.

Before you sleep, hug your parents well, then before you close your eyes, say a nice prayer and sleep, I assure you, nightmares will not trouble you.

Yes eating before you go to bed can cause that, i think it depends what you're thinking about. Are you stressed or is something bothering you?
