Last night my husband and I went out to dinner/movie with a friend of his since high school (my husband is still friends with a lot of people from HS). Anyway, out of no where asked us if what we would think if he told us he was gay. This guy dated a girl for 6 years during end of high school to college and hasn't dated much since. He's in his 40's and very shy/reserved. There was a really long pause and when I realized my husband wasn't going to say anything, I said, "Well, that would be fine. It doesn't matter whatever you are." I know what I said wasn't the best thing to say, but I was a bit taken off guard. Then the guy said really fast, "Well, I'm not." But, I don't know, normally I'm very good at reading people. I asked my husband why he didn't say anything and he responded that he thought his friend was just joking around. That's not a joke his friend would tell. I told him I thought different, I thought he was just testing us to see what we'd say. Thoughts? Thanks.

Yeah, it sounds like he might have been fishing for your reaction. If you really don't care, let him know next time you see him.

Unless this friend was a class clown in school people normally do not play around like that. Your husband rather heard him say that you two were sleeping around before he heard him say he was gay. Now if you would like to rub it in, ask your hubby which classes did they have together, sex education class, pysh. ed., home ec. You could really rub this in his face, (your hubby) that is. LOL who cares like you said, but your husband maynot be his close friend any more

Could be, but my flashed to being bisexual and wasn't testing the waters you think he was, he had his eyes set on an entirely different pool. And you both were swimming if you get my drift.

I would have interpreted that as testing the waters. His stomach probably twisted into knots during that uncomfortable silence.

He probably was just testing your reactions and based on your husband's silence he had to counter his statement.
