When someone looks at resumes, they do not spend more than a few seconds scanning it. Therefore, you want to keep it as simple as possible. No fancy fonts or long drawn out explanations.

name, address, phone, email

work history (not past 10 years)

schooling

achievements

Make a huge effort NOT to go more than one page in length. Neatness and correct English count enormously. Use white paper, black ink.

Here is an article about resume formats. You can see what all three formats look like and how they differ from one another. The best thing is that you can see one person's information in all three formats, so you get a much better idea of how each resume format differs from the others.

Go to careerbuilder.com or resume.com. Although I don't know about a "correct" resume format---it depends upon your industry and the length of your experience. General rule is that for every 5 years of experience you require one page, but no more than 2 or max three pages. Many multinational firms do not like the word "Curr. Vitae" or "Bio" on top---just start with your name and address. A good order is:

Objective
Key Accomplishements
Education
Experience
Extra-curricular activities (particularly professional membership)
