Why do alarm clocks have 9 minute snooze? Why not 10 minutes, why not 20?

Its to do with the original digital alarm clocks, they have very little memory registers on them and 9 was a logical count down because it required les memory.

Not to be confused with base 2 ( binary ) where the boundaries woudl be 4, 8 or 16 minutes, original alarm clocks worked in base 10 so the boundaries were 9 or 99 minutes.

Boring eh ? 'tis the thruth though, i used to work on them and write the programs for the single chip computers

One of mine has a five minute snooze, the other has a 10 minute snooze. What I don't understand is the snooze mode that turns on the radio for 59 minutes. It really pisses me off when I accidentally hit that button.

From when the alarmgoes off, and you hit the snooze button, that is a minute gone, so, plus 9, = 10 minutes. Easier to calculate. hope this helps......

Perhaps it is so that after the 9th minute you have the 10th minute to fully wake up, thus giving you the 10 minutes extra in bed.
