They are both the same sex, but we dont know if they are both male or female. One has a black head and a black stipe that runs the lenght of the top of his body, and the other has a light brown head and the rest of him is white .The rat has a white nose then the colour slowly changes to light brown the further up his head you move. This one also has a white marking on his head that looks like a white thunderbolt. Any ideas on good names??

If they are over 5 weeks old you should be able to tell by now as to their sex. They should not be allowed to go to new homes before that tender age. If you lift the tail and you don't see anything, you have females. If you lift the tail and see two gunny sacks, you have males :) This is a fun way to remember how to tell the sexes apart as was described to us by another member on one my rat-only Yahoo Groups. Male rats are very well endowed even at this age.

I have been told on my forums that I am very creative when it comes to naming my rats. I've already had to come up with 200 names over the years, as you can see by my mischief pages (a group of rats is called a mischief) http://spazrats.tripod.com/mischief.html

Some of my favorites for a recent group of five are JuJube Gumdrop, Kashi CornPop, Lemony Snicket, Mulberry MudPye, and Nacho CheezeNip. I even have a Siamese male named RATsami-Chuan, and a Beige Hooded male named I'rat.

But, without knowing their sex it's pretty hard for me to come up with specific and creative names. It's also easier to name them if I saw their pictures. As rat-crazy as I am, I would LOVE to see pictures of your new babies. E-mail me :)

I do know their color and markings as you have described them.
You have a blacked hooded and the names that come to mind based just on color for males are Coal, Hoody, Pepe. For females, Ciara (means black), Sindi.
The other sounds to be a chocolate capped with a headspot. His/Her color/marking will continue to change as he/she gets older and sheds out his/her baby coat. Names that come to mind for males are Cappy, Thunder. For girls, Caprice, Smidge.
Chedder, Tric for either sex.
I really hate those twin names, except for one, "Mutt and Jeff". And Pinky and the Brain are cartoon Mice.

Wow! They are great names :) And they reflect their personalities so well! I dont usually like names like Cupcake, Biscuit, Melon, Ginger etc But Vanilla is cute :) And OMG - you have no idea how much i love Rebel! I have one just like her, cheeky and loves to explore, shes the most confident of the whole litter! Shes grey and white too! But atm her name is Dotty. Because when she was a baby she was black and white and she had a white dot on her head, but now shes grown up her colour is grey, but its sport of flecked, its really hard to explain - but your cant see her dot anymore. I didnt give them proper names as i was trying to rehome them, but now they are staying with me :) So i could change their names to something more perminant So yeah, i love your rats names :) Mine are called Louie (daddy) Jake Tilly (mummy) Suki Lily (Lil) Polly Dotty Dora :) Love to your rats :) PS. Can i steal the name Rebel? :P

Midget and Fidget
Sable and Flash.

Rats are great, we named ours after watching them for a few days, Fidget cos she was never still, Sway cos she used to sit and sway at you, Spike as the hair on his forehead was spiked and Freda as she was a sweet wee thing who just suited the name.

i had a male rat called gerrard, he died a few months ago :(
you cant really miss-sex rats as the male rats 'balls' are highly visable!

i name all my pets after my heroes, i think you should do that. if your hero is male n you have a female pet put 'miss' infront of it!!

p.s my ex named gerrard not me!!
