The man said how he feels. I think it a shame that he isn't allow to say his believes. And just because anyone said that isn't right and you should be punish for your comment. People say I have the right to be open about being gay (this is true). But is right to say you can't believe the way you want. I think he #1 because he voice the way he felt. (right or wrong) People should be free to say how they feel about things and not have to worry that someone feelings are going to be hurt. And for example that not anything about being gay! Fat people are talk about are the time. What about people who call people redneck just because they are from the south.

What Tim Hardaway said was very disrespectful and shows how much hatred, spite, and bashing of gays goes on behind the scenes without a lot of people knowing. The gay rights movement is very similar to the civil rights movement in the 60's. In 33 states, a person can get fired just because they are gay. Parents that are gay can face the fear of losing their child just because they are gay. If a child comes out to their parents, they face the possibility of being kicked out of the house or disowned by the family and having to live on their own. I've seen it happen to many teenagers.

The worst part is unlike racial comments. You can't look at the person's skin color and say, "Oh yeah, he's gay." People say gay bashing comments and often don't know that the person standing right beside them is gay and hears every word. And sometimes that person standing right beside them is their own son or daughter or brother or sister or coworker.

You know 50 years ago they said the same things about African Americans. They said stuff like:

"They shouldn't be on the sports team."

"If one was on the team, it'd make me totally uncomfortable."

"I wouldn't want to be fighting with one in combat."

"A black man and a white woman shouldn't be allowed to get married because it will ruin the sanctity of marriage."

Dont' all of those comments sound pretty similar to what comments are commonly made about gays?

Just because a player or coach is gay doesn't mean that player or coach is going to do something inappropriate with a teammate or player. People don't make assumptions like that when a straight man coaches a women's basketball team. Why should they when a gay man coaches a men's basketball team?

And why shouldn't gay marriage be legal? They said allowing a black man and white woman to marry would ruin the sanctity of marriage and it didn't. In fact there are very many happily married mixed couples. And who has the right to say that a couple can't marry and be happy? It's not like their marriage is hurting them. Can they say? "Your marriage is causing me emotional grief and pain." No, they can't. Because it isn't. Let the people get married and be happy.

I think the worst thing that ever could have happened was Bush's plan to make a constitutional amendment banning gay marriage. The constitution is about guaranteeing rights. Not banning rights. The only time there was ever an amendment that banned rights in the constitution was regarding banning alcohol. And we all know what happened to that amendment. It got repealed.

Tim Hardaway's comments were horrible, but at least they were honest. And yes, that's how he really feels or he wouldn't have said something that stupid. And do I think he was sincere about his apology? No way! Anytime a person has a hatred that runs that deep they never are truly sincere about their apology.

The worst part is that Tim Hardaway represents the NBA's "We Care" program or some program similarly named. What a great person to represent that kind of program. NOT!!!

I believe Tim Hardaway has the right and freedom of speech to state his views that he hates gays. Just as I believe it is the right and freedom of speech for people to chastize him for saying such stupid things. Just as it is the right for people who agree with me to state that they agree and people who disagree with me to state that they disagree. If you can't take the heat after you make a statement, then you shouldn't make it.

Tim Hardaway is #1 victim for expressing his personal view.
Yes another person shut down for applying the very first right under this great nations constitution, the right and freedom of speech.
What is it with this nation, you speak against the war you are a traitor, you speak against immigration you are racist, you speak against gays you are homophobic ... what in the world happened to freedom of expression and speech? Are we not allowed to express our views anymore because ohhhhhh! someone might be offended? how about people who get offended by gays coming out as it is the case in this topic?
I believe rights goes BOTH ways.
